Sex and Philosophy - John A Hewitt

Details and Purchase Instructions

The book cover is actually a mottled blue. (I changed it on the home page to match the web site's colour scheme.)

The book is perfect bound by Antony Rowe Ltd. ("Perfect bound" is a printer's term for a standard paperback binding.) It contains slightly over 140 000 words in 286 pages, (plus lead in pages and preface.) It has a glossary, references and index. The book's page size is 229 mm by 152 mm and it is 17 mm thick. It uses paper of 90 gsm. and weighs approximately 500 grams, which is slightly more than one pound.

Price is £24-95 (UK) or $39-95 (US).
For other countries, please use US dollars or convert the US price to another convertible currency.

"The Architecture of Thought" has been published in Great Britain through Holmhurst House Ltd. and may be purchased through stockists or ordered through book shops in Britain or, at the retail price, through this site. Its ISBN number is 0-9544051-0-2. If your stockist has difficulty locating it, suggest they consult Nielsen's book ordering database.

Alternatively, try NHBS.co.uk, an online science bookstore, or Lindsay and Howes, who normally deal with academic libraries. I am sure that either would be good at handling electronic money or foreign currency.

I would prefer you to purchase via a bookshop but you can buy a copy from this site. To do so, print out the purchase form and complete it with the required information. I do not have electronic money handling facilities, so you will need to send a cheque to the address on the purchase form. Please make cheques payable to "Holmhurst House Ltd." and simultaneously E-mail me to say that it is coming. All purchases are subject to the standard terms and conditions of Holmhurst House Ltd.

I strongly advise against sending cash through the post but orders containing cash, in the form of notes, will be honoured.

I am writing a series of short, explanatory booklets concerning specific aspects of this work under the general title "Topics in Bioepistemic Evolution." Each of these is nine to ten thousand words long and none of them are formally published yet and they are not available from bookshops. I will send printed versions of them to addresses in Britain for £2-50 each or I will send them free as .pdf files to readers anywhere. The titles are

  1. Evolution and the Origins of Human Sexuality
  2. Bioepistemic Evolution
  3. Humour: its Origins, Nature and Educational Significance
  4. Evolution and Social Organization
  5. Evolution and IFF Systems: Drawing the Boundaries of Life

The author is available to speak on these subjects. See lectures under the "Other Topics" link.

Please note that Holmhurst House is my own company, created to publish and market this work. I chose this mode of publication to ensure that copyright in the ideas described remained secure. This book was not submitted to any other publisher.

I would like to extend the published list of Holmhurst House but will consider only academic or educational works. I am particularly interested in work that takes a well-argued but antiestablishment line in areas of scientific or academic significance. If you are such an author, you should not send any completed manuscript. Instead you should write to me, by conventional post, at the address on the purchase form. Your letter should be between one thousand and two thousand words long and be carefully written by you alone. It should outline your own history, the subject of the book you propose, how you became interested in that topic and which groups of readers you believe might find your work interesting.
